Note details re age and place of birth do not agree exactly with other rec ords for Edward & Elizabeth, but gravestone of Edward confirms Burrow Fa rm as abode at time of death and gives age as per other records. The deta ils on this census return are probably wrong. 56 orginally transcrib ed by Ralpha Chave should read 50. Also note gravestone and burial a ge do not agree with Baptism entry or with 1851census.

Assumed error in age on gravestone and register. Census return don't mat ch each other or either register. From Elizabeth's will the connection wi th Samuel's family is clear. Also Edward described as of Uplowman, despi te living in Ashbrittle on Barrow Farm (see gravestone and burial regist er and 1851 census). Edward's sister, Elizabeth, was also describ ed as of Uplowman in the marriage register, despite being baptised in Samp ford Peverell.

He was married to Elizabeth CHAVE (daughter of Edward CHAVE and Ann ANSTEY) on 18 Apr 1836 in Uplowman. both signed
witnesses Thomas Anstey & Robert Squire

A marriage licence affadavit 13.3.1789 recorded as existing by RalphChave. Elizabeth CHAVE was born in 1796 in Hockworthy, Devon. She was baptised on 30 Dec 1796 in Hockworthy Parish Church. (3) She appeared on the census in 1851 in Ashbrittle. She appeared on the census in 1861 in Uplowman.(54) She signed a will on 19 Apr 1869 in ?Uplowman. (55) She died on 14 Aug 1869 in Uplowman. (56) She was buried on 20 Aug 1869 in Uplowman Churchyard. She has reference number ChNNfAE96E1. see 1861 Census entry for Lower Beer, Uplowman (one of the Chave family pr operties)

NOTE: SUSANNAH ABOVE MAY BE HER SISTER

Ralph Chave indicates b. 1798/99 Uplowman on basis of 1851 census return A shbrittle for an Edward and Elizabeth CHAVE (lodgers at Burrow Farm, Ashbr ittle), but appears to be wrong age and wrong birthplace. Note: Elizabe th and Edward both had an uncle John CHAVE, who married Anne Morse. John a nd Anne were buried in Ashbrittle.

Gravestone in Uplowman churchyard (reverse of that for her husband) recor ds date of death as 14 Aug 1869 matches wills index.
